Sex Addiction
Addiction, an illness of escape, aims to ignore, block out or medicate reality. Sex addiction is no different. Often it begins when we are young as a means of coping with uncomfortable feelings, a lack of connection or as the result of trauma such as sexual abuse. Studies have shown that up to 80% of sex addicts experienced traumatic events in childhood. As this disease advances the brain responds by producing endorphins whenever there is sexual activity. As the addiction increases so will the neural responses to sex which can be as powerful and as addictive as narcotics. The sex addictive in essence has its own chemical factory creating feel good sensations whenever they engage in their addictive behavior. This is why it is important to get support if you want to move out of a place of addiction. It is possible to overcome sex addiction.
